At Evergreen Rehab and Wellness we want to keep our clients and staff up to date with the latest information ICBC has to offer. At Evergreen Rehab and Wellness we are happy to announce that as of April 1st, 2019 ICBC claims have updated their policy to improve access to treatment options for those involved in auto accidents. This policy update is centered on health care practitioners such as acupuncturists, clinical counselors, registered massage therapists, chiropractors, kinesiologists and physiotherapists.

Additionally, ICBC has updated their coverage to reflect all previous, existing and future claims to reflect this policy update. Individuals with an existing or open claims made and approved before April 1 will benefit from this policy update in regards to their remaining treatments.

How To Make A Claim with ICBC

Step 1 : Call ICBC and file a claim

For those suffering from an automobile accident their first step to getting effective treatment and start the road to recovery is by contacting ICBC and reporting your claim. You can contact ICBC at 604-520-8222. Alternatively, individuals can complete their easy online claims process instead of a phone call. It is important that regardless of where fault for the accident is placed, all individuals involved have the ability to file a claim for ICBC’s treatment benefits Once an individual’s claim has been received from ICBC they are given Insurance claim number. This number allows the individual to be able to start receiving treatment in the form of massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic, and active rehabilitation, also known as kinesiology.

Once an individual has acquired their insurance claim number the next step is to contact us at Evergreen Rehab and Wellness. Our multiple locations in Surrey and the Lougheed/Coquitlam areas are open Monday to Sunday for your convenience and we welcome walk-ins. Our healthcare professionals are on hand, ready to guide individuals through the steps necessary to receive treatment and begin the recovery process. All we need at Evergreen Rehab and Wellness are following three items:

  • Your ICBC insurance claim number
  • Your first and last name
  • The date of your auto vehicle accident

Once we have gathered the above information we can begin treatment. At Evergreen at both our Surrey and our Coquitlam/Lougheed locations, our objective is to get our patients their personalized treatment programs as soon as possible in order to improve recovery time. When our patients book their first consultation appointment our healthcare practitioners will both assess and discuss their conditions and recommend a treatment option and frequency plan. It is recommended that patients first consult their medical doctor to ensure they are fully aware of all the injuries that they have suffered from their automobile accident. If they have not yet done, our medical professional will first refer you to a medical doctor. Once our patients have their claim number and have participated in a consultation, treatment may begin. In order to utilize our treatments, the first session must begin after 12 weeks of the auto accident. If 12 weeks have passed without a treatment beginning then the patient will have to gain permission from an ICBC claims adjuster.

Once ICBC has approved a patient’s claim for the first 12 weeks of recovery treatment bills are covered by ICBC. However, it is important to remember that depending on the nature and severity of the auto accident additional treatment sessions may be required after the initial 12 weeks of coverage. If this occurs our support staff will contact the patient’s ICBC claims adjuster and seek approval to continue with the treatment schedule. For patients who have been following their personalized treatment plan and their need is real or urgent, ICBC can approve the request

ICBC Claim Frequently Asked Questions

Does ICBC cover for additional treatment sessions once I have completed the given amount?

It is up to ICBC’s decision to approve additional sessions or extend tiven treatment end dates (beyond 3 months). ICBC usually requires patients to submit a doctor’s referral recommending treatments or reassessment reports by treatment providers supporting needs for additional treatments. Evergreen Rehab & Wellness helps our patients with additional treatment approval processes and further communications with ICBC regarding patient’s recovery. ICBC will not be responsible for any treatment costs that are not officially approved or extended.

No, ICBC will not pay for additional treatment costs after the allotted amount they have approved. If patients request additional treatment cost then the treatment fees will not be reimbursed by ICBC.

It depends. An individual may only have their first initial assessment covered by ICBC.

No, patients cannot book multiple treatments of the same therapeutic type (ex. massage, acupuncture etc…) in the same day. For example, patients cannot book two massage therapy sessions in the same day just to get a 60 minute treatment instead of the standard 30 minute session.

Yes, patients who suffered a motor vehicle accident before April 1st 2019 will be entitled to the updated coverage and will not be associated with the previous coverage.

No, ICBC will not cover late appointments or last minute cancellations as it is the patient’s responsibility to be aware of when and where their treatments are scheduled.

Yes and no, ICBC’s direct billing service is a courtesy service offered by ICBC. It does not guarantee that all billing will be approved by ICBC direct billing. If direct billing is rejected it is the patient’s responsibility to pay for their treatment and seek reimbursement from an ICBC claims adjuster. In that way ICBC does cover a patients treatment, there may simply be extra steps.
