Stress affects the majority of Canadians, in 2022, a staggering 7.2 million Canadians expressed experiencing significant life stress. These individuals described most days as being quite a bit or extremely stressful. This statistic represents the estimated number of Canadians aged 12 years and older who perceived their life stress levels as substantial from 2003 to 2022.

Whether it’s chronic stress or sudden triggers, our bodies react physiologically and psychologically through the stress response mechanism, commonly known as fight/flight/freeze.

This automatic defense mechanism kicks in when we perceive a threat, flooding our system with stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. Heart rate spikes, muscles tense, blood pressure rises, breathing quickens, and senses sharpen.

And, if chronic stress may affect your daily activities, it’s time to seek for a professional help. Let Evergreen Rehab and Wellness Clinics help you. We have skilled practitioners and holistic treatments ready to tackle chronic stress and custom stress management plan.

What is Chronic Stress?

Stress is the body’s reaction when confronted with difficult situations. It causes our heart and breathing rates to quicken, it triggers the production of hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, which help us become set for action.

Our ability to respond successfully to a variety of stressors, such as work deadlines, exams, and sporting events, is facilitated by this heightened state of alertness, which is also referred to as being in a state of arousal.

While the physical effects of stress are typically short-lived, some individuals experience a constant state of heightened alertness, known as chronic stress.

What Causes Chronic Stress?

The presence of chronic stress can be attributed to a wide range of circumstances, including but not limited to

  • Demanding jobs/experiencing high pressure at work
  • financial difficulties
  • Turbulent relationships.

When the body is subjected to pressure on a constant basis for an extended period of time, it can result in a chain reaction of symptoms and increase the likelihood of acquiring certain health disorders. This chronic stress has the potential to affect emotional, mental, and physical health.

What are the signs of Chronic Stress?

Chronic stress impacts the entire body and may manifest through various physical or psychological indicators, making daily activities and functioning more difficult.
The specific symptoms and their intensity can differ significantly among individuals.

Manifestations of chronic stress may encompass:

  • High levels of irritability, potentially severe
  • Persistent tiredness
  • Experiencing headaches
  • Challenges in focusing, including complete concentration lapses
  • Fast-paced, chaotic thought processes
  • Problems with falling or staying asleep
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Alterations in hunger levels
  • Feelings of powerlessness
  • A sense of losing control
  • Low self-worth
  • Decreased interest in sexual activities
  • Anxiety
  • An increase in sickness or infections

Chronic stress can deeply affect one’s physical and mental health. However, Evergreen Rehab and Wellness has a variety of holistic treatments that can offer significant relief by addressing the root causes and symptoms of stress.

Here’s a look at some featured holistic treatments:

  • Clinical Counselling: This is a way to talk through your feelings and thoughts with a professional who can help you find ways to cope with stress. It can teach you how to manage your emotions and handle stress better.
  • Chiropractic Care: Chiropractors adjust your spine and other parts of your body to relieve tension and pain. This can help reduce stress by making your body feel more relaxed and balanced.
  • Registered Massage Therapy: Getting a massage can directly relax your muscles, improve blood flow, and make you feel calm. It’s great for easing the physical signs of stress like tight muscles.
  • Physiotherapy: Physiotherapy uses exercises and hands-on treatments to strengthen your body, relieve pain, and reduce stress. It can also teach you relaxation and breathing techniques.
  • Kinesiology/Active Rehab: This is all about using exercise to improve your health and mood. Regular physical activity releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good and reduce stress.
  • Manual Osteopathy: Osteopathy involves gentle manipulation of your body to relieve pain and improve movement. It can help reduce physical discomfort and stress by making your body feel more balanced.

Pretty good RMT (registered massage therapy) experience. They do direct billing to 1 provider. Location can be a bit hard to find at first. Can park in the underground parking lot. When you walk back up the parking lot ramp, Evergreen is on the right past the 504 sign.

Suji Hong, the acupuncturist, is the best I’ve ever known. I had foot injuries that lasted for a couple of months, but after receiving three sessions of needle treatments from her, the pain is gone! She is very professional and caring, and she pinpoints the exact areas where I have issues. If you are looking for a trustworthy acupuncturist in town, I would highly recommend her :)

Sarah Park is the best kinesiologist I have ever experienced. Always impressed by her superlative job of providing best solutions and delivering the immaculate sessions. It's easy to feel that she is very knowledgeable, passionate and caring. Having an amazing experience with Sarah has led me to switch from other clinic that I have been taking physio to take physio sessions at Evergreen.
