What is Chronic Back, Neck or Joint Pain?

Chronic back, neck, or joint discomfort affects millions worldwide. This type of discomfort lasts longer than three months and seriously impacts quality of living. Unlike acute pain, which is a direct response to injury and is temporary, chronic pain continues well beyond the expected period of healing.

Back Pain: Chronic back pain is one of the most common forms of discomfort, often resulting from a variety of causes such as poor posture, repetitive strain, degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis or disc disease, or previous injuries. It can range from a constant dull ache to sharp, severe discomfort that affects mobility and daily activities.

Neck Pain: Chronic neck pain can arise from prolonged strain, often related to modern lifestyles that involve staring at computer screens or using smartphones, which can lead to poor posture and strain on the neck vertebrae and muscles. It can also stem from accidents, such as whiplash injuries or degenerative diseases.

Joint Pain: Chronic joint pain is frequently associated with inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, which cause pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints. This discomfort affects any joint but is most frequent in the knees, hips, shoulders, and hands, reducing range of motion and limiting daily chores.

Beyond physical suffering, chronic pain affects mental and emotional health. Fatigue, sleep disruptions, mood changes, and decreased activity can cause anxiety and despair. Depending on the patient’s condition, chronic pain management may involve medication, physical therapy, lifestyle changes, and surgery.

Featured Holistic Treatments for Chronic Pain Management

At Evergreen Rehab & Wellness, we offer a holistic approach to treating chronic pain addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of recovery. Our comprehensive range of holistic treatments includes:

  • Chiropractic Care: Utilizing hands-on spinal manipulation and other manual techniques, chiropractic care aims to align the body’s musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, to enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication.
  • Registered Massage Therapy:
Through various massage techniques, our registered massage therapists work to relax tense muscles, improve circulation, and enhance your overall sense of well-being.
  • Physiotherapy: Our physiotherapists use a combination of exercises, manual therapy, and modalities like ultrasound or electrotherapy to restore function and movement in patients with chronic pain. This approach is tailored to individual needs, targeting specific areas of pain and dysfunction.
  • Active Rehab: Active rehab strengthens, stretches, and resists pain through exercise and movement. Chronic pain patients can improve their quality of life with this tailored regimen.
  • Clinical Counselling: Recognizing the link between physical pain and emotional health, our clinical counselling services offer strategies to cope with the stress, depression, and anxiety that often accompany chronic pain. Our counselors provide support and techniques to help manage pain from a psychological perspective.
  • Manual Osteopathy: Using a range of gentle, hands-on techniques, manual osteopaths aim to restore balance and harmony in the body. This treatment focuses on relieving joint and muscle pain, improving circulation, and supporting the body’s natural healing processes.
  • Acupuncture: An ancient Chinese medicine practice, acupuncture involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. It’s used to alleviate pain and promote healing by stimulating the body’s natural painkillers and increasing blood flow.
  • Naturopathy: Our naturopathic doctors focus on natural remedies and lifestyle changes to treat chronic pain. This might include dietary advice, herbal medicine, and supplements to support the body’s healing and manage pain levels.
  • Pilates: A low-impact workout that strengthens muscles, aligns posture, and increases flexibility. It helps back, neck, and joint pain sufferers control pain through strength and resilience.

Pretty good RMT (registered massage therapy) experience. They do direct billing to 1 provider. Location can be a bit hard to find at first. Can park in the underground parking lot. When you walk back up the parking lot ramp, Evergreen is on the right past the 504 sign.

Suji Hong, the acupuncturist, is the best I’ve ever known. I had foot injuries that lasted for a couple of months, but after receiving three sessions of needle treatments from her, the pain is gone! She is very professional and caring, and she pinpoints the exact areas where I have issues. If you are looking for a trustworthy acupuncturist in town, I would highly recommend her :)

Sarah Park is the best kinesiologist I have ever experienced. Always impressed by her superlative job of providing best solutions and delivering the immaculate sessions. It's easy to feel that she is very knowledgeable, passionate and caring. Having an amazing experience with Sarah has led me to switch from other clinic that I have been taking physio to take physio sessions at Evergreen.
