Tyler Jay is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) of Evergreen Rehab & Wellness Coquitlam. Previously to the program, Tyler used to compete in local tennis tournaments. During this time, he suffered from a few injuries that affected his training routine. This included pain with his shoulders, wrists, knees, and lower back. Massage therapy helped him with the pain he was experiencing so he could continue competing at a provincial level. Tyler understands the stresses of competing. He wants to alleviate the additional stress an injury can create physically.

Tyler likes to work with his patients to achieve their goals. He believes pain should not always have to be permanent. Additionally, Tyler wants to make a difference in people’s lives through massage. For those who are injured or in pain, he would like to improve their quality of life by allowing them to return to the activities they enjoy.

Tyler is happy to treat a wide range of conditions. He is particularly interested in working with fascia/soft tissue, and he also enjoys working with patients who experience nerve compression. Below are some of the techniques that he implements in his treatments:

  • Trigger Point Release (TrP) – used on knots or nodules in the muscle to reduce discomfort
  • Active/Passive Release – used to reduce tightness of muscles
  • Golgi Tendon Organ Release – reduces muscle tension
  • Swedish Massage – general relaxation and tissue warm up
  • Joint Mobilization – maintains joint health and range of motion
  • Fascia Manipulation – the release of soft tissue that may be inducing pain
  • PNF Stretching – lengthens shortened muscles that could be causing discomfort

Additionally, Tyler is always looking forward to improving his knowledge base. He is excited to learn and improve himself as a health care professional. In the future, he is interested in becoming a chiropractor or in pursuing osteopathy.
Tyler enjoys coaching tennis. He used to coach at the Richmond Tennis Club as a co-head coach and continues to teach from time to time. Tyler also continues to play tennis monthly and enjoys recreational gaming, singing, hiking, and anything active. He has also been interested in nutrition and partakes in intermittent fasting. Additionally, Tyler is a food enthusiast. He enjoys food a little too much.

Tyler completed his 2800-hour practical training at Vancouver Career College in 2018. Before entering the massage therapy program, Tyler completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of British Columbia.
